A reference site for traditional culture
What this site is for
Ziwei Notes exists to organise traditional culture and its documentary knowledge.
We set out the history, the terminology and the classical-literature common sense of Zi Wei Dou Shu in systematic order,
written in language a modern reader can follow, for anyone who wants to understand, study and discuss it.
The charting tools and downloads here are supporting material for that body of knowledge:
they turn a star-placement procedure that once required a dozen tables into a program, so that a chart becomes reproducible and checkable —
leaving time to read the chart, compare it with the texts and cross-examine the two.
Content and sources
- The history section rests on surviving old books, bibliographic records and mainstream research; attributions and dates that are doubtful are flagged in the text.
- The stars, palaces and transformations sections are compiled from current common readings; where schools disagree, the variants are set side by side rather than one being chosen.
- The charting rules (true solar time, five-element phase, star order, decade and yearly cycles) are implemented so they can be recomputed, and results can be verified by repetition.
If you find a factual or terminological error, please tell us — we will check it and correct it.
Data and privacy
- Articles on this site are static pages: no login is required and no personal information is collected.
- The software works against this site's service: the online calculator, the desktop edition and the online reading submit only the birth data needed to produce a result, used for nothing else and shared with no one.
- The online calculator sends birth time, focus and similar necessary items to the server only when generating a reading text; the birth data is not used otherwise and is not passed on.

desktop edition — see Downloads.
The installer is not commercially code-signed, so some security products may warn — choose "Allow".
